Jesus - Introduction
In the words of Eric Liddell, the Olympic Gold medallist and celebrated athlete of Scotland portrayed in Chariots of Fire, Jesus' life is the most beautiful that has ever been. Yet, His goodness challenged the people of His time, revealing their own shortcomings. Rather than rise to His example, they crucified Him.
Jesus remains the supreme ideal. We are called to follow His example in character, outlook, and attitude toward God and man. His influence touches every part of life—from the home to the workplace to social interactions—setting a standard of patience, love, honesty, and selflessness that we strive to emulate.
Who Jesus Is
Paul, in his letter to the Colossians, captures the majesty and authority of Jesus:
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."
— Colossians 1:15-17
Jesus Christ is not only our Saviour but the Creator and Sustainer of all things. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He reconciled all of creation to God, making peace through the shedding of His blood on the cross.
The Way, the Truth, and the Life
Jesus declared Himself to be the only way to God, embodying truth and offering eternal life. He brings light to the darkest corners of our hearts, replacing despair with hope and transforming brokenness into wholeness. Following Him is a journey that leads to abundant life, where His teachings and love shape every part of our existence.
The Gospels
The life and ministry of Jesus are central to the entire Bible. The Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—recount His teachings, miracles, and, most importantly, His death and resurrection. These four books chronicle the arrival of the Messiah who was long promised in the Old Testament, a Saviour who would not only redeem Israel but all of humanity.
Jesus is more than a historical figure or a great teacher. He is the Son of God, the hope of the world, and the foundation of our faith. His life continues to challenge, inspire, and transform lives today. In Him, we find our purpose, our peace, and our joy.
